Home Server

Since 2022, I have been developing my own smart home. This began with Home Assistant running on a Raspberry Pi, but has since grown into a much more substantial and powerful system.

I now run a Proxmox home server on an old laptop salvaged from the WEEE bin. This runs Home Assistant, of course, but also Frigate (for my home security cameras, including local object detection), Mealie (for those recipes!), Actual (for my budgeting), Immich (for my photos), my home media server, and much more.

I use this to control my smart home, keep it safe and secure, and manage my home energy devices, including my solar panels, battery, and EV charger. Experimenting with advanced logic for these devices to optimise my energy usage has been tremendously satisfying.
